What is the purpose of IMD?

Our goal is to elevate the status and resources of children of color who have developmental disabilities. By emphasizing strengths and distinguishing between myths and stereotypes, the Institute helps families build meaningful relationships and networks with the essential services in their communities.

Through education and family reunification, we help families design a framework of community values and support aimed at improving life options for every child and individual with a developmental disability.


Who is eligible for services?

Anyone who requires services because of a Developmental Disability.


How are services paid for?

Services are paid for by the county (which determines eligibility), Medical Assistance, or private medical insurance.


What services does IMD offer?

We offer a comprehensive array of social services such as:

  • Culturally relevant residential home-based services
  • Parent education leadership training
  • Assessment of Developmentally Disabled and MI services
  • Crisis intervention service
  • Counseling–Family and individual
  • Information and referral
  • Parenting support
  • Psychiatric services
  • Behavioral health services
  • Nursery health care
